Helios vs Claude Cowork
Different layers of the same stack.
Cowork and Routines run work for one person inside a Claude seat. Helios runs workflows for a team on triggers, with one meter for the organization.

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's desktop work surface for knowledge workers. Claude Code Routines run scheduled or GitHub-triggered jobs on Anthropic's infrastructure for engineers. Both draw on the Claude plan you already pay for. Helios is a team runner. Each run gets its own sandbox, reaches the full API of each connected tool, and starts from a schedule, a webhook, or an integration event. Helios uses Anthropic models, so the question is which layer fits the work.

Where Claude Cowork is strong
What Claude Cowork does well
- A frontier model is included in the plan. There is no separate model bill.
- Enterprise plumbing is mature. Events go to a SIEM, there is a Compliance API, and admins can turn Cowork and its browser on or off per organization.
- Cowork has a built-in browser and works on the files already on your Mac.
- Routines run on Claude Code's web infrastructure, so nothing depends on your laptop being open, and they react to GitHub PR and release events.
- Distribution. Many teams already have a Claude seat, so there is nothing new to buy.
Where Helios is different
How Helios works instead
- Every run and every chat gets its own sandbox with a shell, a filesystem, and code execution. The sandbox is discarded when the run ends.
- Workflows start on a cron schedule, a signed webhook, or an integration event from GitHub, Slack, or Plain, for any task. Cowork tasks run on a schedule. Routines react to a schedule, an API call, or GitHub events.
- Spend is credits on one organization meter with a spending limit. It is not a per-person seat allowance shared with chat.
- Agents edit shared Library files through a review step. A person approves or discards each file change before it lands. Cowork outputs stay on one person's machine.
- One permissions model. The roles you set in the dashboard apply in the CLI too, so `helios share` and the share dialog do the same thing.

Using both
Helios and Claude Cowork together
Most teams keep both. Cowork is good for one person's documents, spreadsheets, and memos on their own machine. Helios is for work that must run when nobody is at a keyboard, for a team, on a trigger, against the full API of a tool. Helios uses Anthropic models, so you can move a task from Cowork to a Helios workflow without changing how you write the prompt.
